Vent control

Volume control

You set volume and rate. The airway pressure tells you how hard it was to deliver that breath.

You directly adjust

  • Tidal volume, respiratory rate, FiO₂, PEEP, inspiratory flow/flow pattern, trigger, and alarms.

Watch

  • Peak pressure, plateau pressure, expiratory flow returning to baseline, EtCO₂, SpO₂, synchrony, and hemodynamics.

Pitfalls

  • Ignoring rising pressure after setting a fixed VT.
  • Too short expiratory time in asthma/COPD.
  • Under-ventilating severe metabolic acidosis.
